Academic Competitions
Chamlian is proud to offer three outstanding academic competition teams for students in grades 7 and 8: Academic Pentathlon, Model United Nations (Model UN), and Mock Trial.
These highly engaging programs challenge students to develop critical thinking, public speaking, research, collaboration, and leadership skills while competing against students from schools across the region. Through rigorous preparation, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving, participants gain valuable academic and personal growth experiences that extend far beyond the classroom.
Our competition teams have a strong tradition of excellence, consistently earning individual medals and team honors. Whether students are interested in debate, law, current events, or interdisciplinary academic challenges, these programs provide an exciting opportunity to build confidence, expand knowledge, and represent Chamlian with pride.
Weekly Meeting Schedule
Academic competition teams will meet weekly after school from 3:15–4:15 p.m. As competitions approach, additional after-school and Saturday practices may be scheduled to help students prepare.
- Mondays: Mock Trial (8th Grade only)
- Tuesdays: Model United Nations (7th–8th Grade)
- Thursdays: Academic Pentathlon (6th–8th Grade)
Participation Fees
- Academic Pentathlon: $550 per student
- Model United Nations: $550 per student
- Mock Trial: $400 per student
Transportation costs for competitions are not included.
Payment will only be collected after applications have been reviewed and students have been officially selected for a team. Because these programs require significant planning and preparation, participation is considered a full-year commitment. Participation fees are non-refundable once a student has been selected for a team.
To provide opportunities for more students, applicants may apply to all three teams; however, students may be selected for a maximum of two competition teams.
Commitment & Expectations
These programs are designed for students who are eager to challenge themselves academically and work as part of a competitive team. Students selected are expected to:
- Attend all scheduled practices regularly.
- Balance extracurricular commitments to avoid scheduling conflicts.
- Come prepared and contribute positively to the team.
- Be available for occasional evening and weekend practices, competitions, and events.
Success in these programs requires dedication, responsibility, and a commitment to supporting one another while striving for excellence.
Academic Pentathlon (Up to 20 Participants)
Academic Pentathlon is a five-subject competition featuring Mathematics, Science, Literature, Fine Arts (Art & Music), and Social Science. Students compete within their GPA division—Honor, Scholastic, or Varsity—while preparing under the guidance of a coach.
Competition events include objective tests, essay writing, and a novel study, all designed to strengthen critical thinking, academic knowledge, and performance under pressure.
Team Selection Meeting- Thursday, September 10, 2026 (3:15-4:15pm)
Model United Nations (Up to 20 Participants)
In Model United Nations, students serve as delegates representing countries in simulated United Nations committees. Participants research global issues, write position papers, deliberate with fellow delegates, debate resolutions, and compose and deliver speeches at conferences
Students develop valuable skills in public speaking, diplomacy, collaboration, research, and global awareness while exploring real-world international issues.
Transportation and conference costs for competitions are not included.
Team Selection Meeting- Tuesday, September 9, 2026 (3:15-4:15pm)
Mock Trial (Up to 25 Participants)
Mock Trial allows students to experience the legal system by serving as attorneys, witnesses, bailiffs, courtroom artists, or journalists in a simulated courtroom competition. Teams prepare both prosecution and defense cases before presenting them to panels of legal professionals.
Students strengthen persuasive speaking, analytical thinking, teamwork, writing, and courtroom presentation skills. Every role contributes to the team's overall success.

All applications are due Tuesday, August 18. More information will be shared by the academic competition teachers leading up to the team selection meeting.
