Technology

Vision & Goals: To prepare students for the 21st century, the school believes that it is imperative to integrate information and communication technologies into education, and has therefore identified it as one of its ESLR’s: “Chamlian students will utilize technology with competence through the development of 21st century technical skills to compete in the global community, by becoming proficient in locating, accessing, organizing, evaluating and applying information for a complex and technological world, and by becoming empowered and well-rounded learners capable of efficiently and effectively using emerging digital technologies, while practicing safe, secure, and ethical computing.”

The technology implementation at Chamlian is designed as a cloud-based instruction into various kinds of technology, providing a launching pad for further college study and real-life application through our Google Apps for education platform. Recognizing the challenges faced as members of a global society, we fully embrace the mission and vision of Chamlian, and seek application of these values in today's technologically enhanced world.

STEAM PROGRAM: Our Chamlian STEAM program encourages students to take an innovative approach to learning with an integration of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics through projects that are linked to what they are learning in class. This new way of learning supports students with the development of both their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills across the program. As part of our 21st century curriculum, students are given opportunities to apply their learning while developing skills in all academic areas. Our goal for our STEAM program is to help students develop and apply transferable skills and be able to think across subject boundaries, and most importantly, beyond the classroom. Our cross-curriculum approach fosters logical thinking, problem-solving, and persistence, encourages collaboration and communication, and provides the opportunity for students to develop 21st-century skills in a creative way. Ultimately, our goal is to create a generation able to express new ideas and perspectives across subjects and bring innovative ideas to life!

21st Century Learning: Chamlian utilizes the SAMR model to evaluate the level of technology use integrated in the curriculum. SAMR is a hierarchical model that stands for substitution, augmentation, modification, and redefinition. Technology integration in the substitution level is low-use, and redefinition is identified as the highest quality, geared towards a student-centered learning approach. The substitution and augmentation level are models implemented to enhance student learning, while modification and redefinition are the desired models applied to transform learning. The quality use of technology integration at Chamlian uses the SAMR model to measure its impact on teaching and learning.

Technology access at Chamlian has created a tool to transform teaching and learning, especially as a method for increased communication and collaboration. Chamlian’s tech-driven curriculum encourages our teachers to implement these new skills to help re-define the role of learning. Ultimately, our goal is for technology to not just enhance the curriculum, but transform instructional practice to better equip our students as digital citizens.
