Graduation

Dear Chamlian Parents,

Changes to Chamlian School’s student recognition process will begin with the 2019-2020 academic year.  These changes have been initiated based on the school’s goal of fostering a positive school culture and supporting our core values of academic excellence, integrity, heritage and innovation.  With these changes we wish to reinforce our inclusive culture and minimize unnecessary competitiveness by maintaining 21st Century models of academic honor and recognition with an emphasis on student performance in their rigorous coursework.  To this end, students will no longer be given a valedictorian title  during 8th grade graduation or receive awards with monetary compensation during 6th or 8th grade graduation ceremony.

Nonetheless, student performance and academic achievements will continue to be recognized and celebrated.  Students with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.70 or above will be on the Principal’s Honor Roll and students with a GPA of 3.50-3.69 will be on the Honor Roll. Furthermore, during 8th grade graduation ceremony we will also recognize students who achieved a 4.0 GPA in both 7th and 8th grades as Students of Academic Excellence with an additional sash to be worn during graduation.

Presidential Gold awards will continue to be given during 8th grade graduation ceremony and the recipients will wear a special pin and a gold rope during the ceremony. As mandated by the US Secretary of Education, the Presidential Gold award will be given to graduating 8th grade students with a GPA of 3.50 or above in both 7th and 8th grades and no disciplinary infractions.

We are proud of our Chamlian Tigers’ continued achievement and recognize that each student is blessed with unique talents, specific strengths, and growth opportunities.  We count on our parents support and partnership in implementing these exciting changes to better serve our amazing students.

Thank you,
School Administration
