Position Overview:
Chamlian Armenian School, a National and California Blue Ribbon School, is seeking enthusiastic, reliable, and growth-minded individuals to join our team as Resident Substitute Teachers. This role is an ideal entry point for individuals who aspire to become classroom teachers and grow within our school community.
The Resident Substitute Teacher position is more than daily coverage. It is a structured training opportunity that provides hands-on classroom experience across grade levels and subject areas, mentorship from experienced educators, and meaningful engagement with students and faculty. Many Resident Substitute Teachers successfully transition into full-time teaching roles at Chamlian.
This role is flexible, engaging, and impactful, offering the opportunity to contribute positively to school culture while developing instructional confidence and professional skills.
- Provide classroom coverage across grade levels and subject areas as needed
- Implement lesson plans and support student learning in the absence of the classroom teacher
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and structured learning environment
- Adapt quickly to different classrooms, routines, and instructional styles
- Engage students with warmth, confidence, and professionalism
- Build positive relationships with students
- Support students’ academic and social-emotional growth
- Uphold schoolwide expectations and values
- Serve as a positive role model across campus
- Receive coaching and mentorship from faculty and administrators
- Observe experienced teachers and learn instructional best practices
- Participate in professional learning opportunities when available
- Develop readiness for future classroom teaching roles
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Strong interest in teaching and education required
- Prior experience working with children or in educational settings preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility, reliability, and a positive attitude
- Willingness to learn, reflect, and grow professionally
