Literary Character Day
On this day, 7th & 8th grade students will come to school dressed up as an author or a character from a favorite book. The character must be a well-known and influential character from a famous literary work. The character/ book that is chosen must be approved by Monday, May 18th.
The chosen costume must be accompanied by a 7-10 sentence paragraph about the character/author chosen. This paragraph should include information about the character, their influences, and the reason the student chose them.
This project will be assessed as a 4th quarter project grade.
I’m excited to see the creative costumes, but students must adhere to the following rules:
- Costume must be of a literary figure that is either an author or a character from an approved novel/short story.
- no masks
- no items that could be considered weapons (plastic bow & arrow or swords are acceptable).
- no heavy face paint, body paint, or hair color (wigs are acceptable!)
- the costume must be from a book (or a movie based on a book)
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to participate. There are many simple book character costume ideas that don’t cost a fortune. Just remember to focus on the character. Think about how the character acts & thinks, what the character says, or author descriptions of the character.
The reason for this day is to not only promote the excitement of reading, but to provide a scholastically nurturing and fun activity.
