School History
Founded in 1975, Vahan and Anoush Chamlian Armenian School stands as a beacon of academic distinction and cultural pride in the Armenian-American community. What began with just eight students in a modest space has grown into a premier institution serving generations of families across the greater Los Angeles area.
For five decades, Chamlian has upheld a mission rooted in academic excellence, innovation, integrity, and Armenian heritage. These values are the foundation of our school culture and the lens through which we prepare students to lead with purpose, confidence, and character.
Our school's growth, powered by community support and the visionary philanthropy of Mr. and Mrs. Vahan and Anoush Chamlian, set a foundation for an environment where innovative teaching methods and learning opportunities allow students to excel and embody leadership, steeped in a reinforced cultural identity and forward-thinking approach.
As the community expanded, so did the school’s programs. The decades that followed were marked by significant advancements in both student enrollment and the breadth of academic and extracurricular offerings. Initiatives like the introduction of dual Armenian dialect instruction and early WASC accreditation reflected a commitment not only to high educational standards but also to innovation and integrity in connecting students more deeply with their heritage.
Chamlian continues to evolve through strategic planning, investment in modern learning environments, and a shared vision of excellence. While our programs grow and adapt to meet the needs of today’s learners, our mission remains unchanged: to educate and inspire students who think critically, lead ethically, and carry their Armenian identity with pride. The future begins here.
