Ms. Alexa Gris

My name is Miss Alexa Gris, and I am thrilled to be entering my second year at Chamlian Armenian School as the sixth and seventh grade science teacher. As a proud alumna of the Class of 2010, it is incredibly meaningful to teach in the same community that helped shape who I am today. Returning to Chamlian has truly felt like coming home.

I believe that curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity are at the heart of meaningful education. My goal is to create a classroom where students feel supported, challenged, and excited to learn. Whether we are exploring the wonders of the natural world, conducting hands-on investigations, or asking big questions, I strive to help students develop confidence in themselves and a lifelong love of learning.

Educational Background: I earned my bachelor’s degree in Political Science and French Studies from the University of Portland, where I developed a deep appreciation for language, culture, and global connection.

Work Experience: Prior to joining Chamlian, I taught math and science in an Armenian school setting. In addition to classroom teaching, I advised student council, led yearbook production, and supported students as a teacher’s assistant in both kindergarten and preschool classrooms. I am also a founding member of Kooyrigs, a nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian aid to Armenian women and families, a mission that continues to shape my values as both an educator and community advocate.

Interests and Hobbies: Outside the classroom, I am an avid reader and usually finish at least two books each week. I enjoy storytelling, arts and crafts, and designing engaging learning experiences that help students feel seen, inspired, and empowered. I am passionate about making science accessible, exciting, and relevant to everyday life, and I love helping students discover just how fascinating the world around them can be.
