The Language Arts curriculum prepares students to become fluent readers, good listeners, confident speakers, and strong writers.

Our program is based on the California State Standards. It includes a phonics-based reading program in first and second grade. In third through eighth grade, reading is taught through a comprehensive literacy program with exposure to various genres of written language such as classical literature, poetry, and novels. To learn more about the standards, review the California State Language Arts Standards online.

All students are administered the STAR Reading Assessment annually which measures reading fluency and comprehension. This is a computer-adaptive test which provides information to help teachers tailor instruction, monitor reading growth, and improve students' reading performance.
